What is Compass?

Compass is the file browser module that provides an intuitive interface for navigating and managing files across your connected storage sources. It offers a familiar file manager experience for working with cloud storage, file servers, and local datasets.

Key Features

File Navigation

  • Tree View - Hierarchical folder structure navigation
  • Breadcrumb Navigation - Quick path navigation with breadcrumbs
  • Search - Find files by name or pattern
  • Favorites - Bookmark frequently accessed locations

File Operations

  • Preview - View file contents without downloading
  • Download - Download files to your local machine
  • Upload - Upload files to connected storage
  • Copy/Move - Copy or move files between locations
  • Delete - Remove files and folders
  • Rename - Rename files and folders

View Options

  • List View - Detailed list with file properties
  • Grid View - Thumbnail view for visual browsing
  • Sort Options - Sort by name, date, size, or type
  • Filter - Filter files by type or extension

Supported Sources

Compass works with all file-based connections:

  • Amazon S3 buckets
  • Azure Blob containers
  • Google Cloud Storage buckets
  • SFTP and FTP servers
  • Local file systems
  • Uploaded datasets

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Data Catalog → Compass
  2. Select a storage connection from the sidebar
  3. Browse through folders using the tree view or list
  4. Click on files to preview or download
  5. Use the toolbar for file operations

Keyboard Shortcuts

Use keyboard shortcuts for faster navigation: Enter to open, Backspace to go up, Ctrl+C to copy, Ctrl+V to paste, Delete to remove.
